Pediatric Therapy

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect the first day?

Your therapist will listen to you and ask you questions about your child's needs. Your therapist will then complete testing to identify your child's therapy needs. This usually takes between 30 minutes and one hour per type of therapy. You and your therapist will then discuss goals that you would like your child to work on in therapy, as well as how frequently your child should come. Your input into the plan and therapy goals is very important.

What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy promotes the development of gross motor skills, strength, range of motion, balance, and coordination. Physical therapy goals often target developmental milestones like sitting, crawling, standing, and walking.

What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy promotes development of fine motor skills, sensory motor skills, and visual motor skills. OT goals often target fine motor developmental milestones like reaching for toys and grasping, as well as hand-writing and sensory integration.

What is speech therapy?

Speech therapy promotes development of producing and understanding language, forming correct speech sounds, and feeding. Speech goals often include improving these.

What if my child gets more than one type of therapy?

We will assign a primary therapist for you. This therapist will be available to discuss any concerns or needs you may have for your child's team of therapists.

Can I go with my child?

Yes. We definitely encourage family support and participation with therapy.

However, at times some children perform better when their parents or caregivers are not present. In this case, Parents/Caregivers are updated on their child's progress at the end of the treatment session and given activities to work on at home. Please discuss this with your therapist.

What if I have to cancel an appointment?

Please let us know as soon as possible by calling 662-720-5074. You may leave a message on the voicemail.

How long will my child be in therapy?

Therapy will be recommended for your child if they demonstrate the potential to make functional improvements. We will discuss discontinuing therapy when your child has met all goals, maximized his or her function from the program, or another level of care becomes more appropriate.

How long will therapy sessions last?

Typically, sessions last for 30 minutes to one hour.

Thank you for entrusting us with your care. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call us at 662-720-5074.
