Baptist colleagues completed 2nd Habitat Home

For the second consecutive year, Baptist contributed the entire $60,000
sponsorship for a local Habitat for Humanity home. Baptist volunteers
worked all 480 shifts to complete the five-bedroom, two-bathroom house
over a two-month period, and on June 23, the Allen family received the
keys to their new home.
“I had the opportunity to meet Roderick and Tasha Allen before we
started the build, and they are a sweet, loving and gracious family,”
said Carolyn Hicks Fry, Baptist’s volunteer coordinator for the build.
“They are very thankful for all the work that has been put into this
house to make it a home.”
The Allens have six children and attend El-Shaddai Christian Church,
where Roderick is a youth pastor, Tasha is training to be a minister,
and the children sing in the choir.
In addition to all the volunteer hours, Baptist colleagues contributed
housewarming gifts to make the Allen family feel right at home—towels
and linens, rugs, cleaning supplies, toiletries, a vacuum, and a kitchen
equipped with coffee pot, microwave, and a fully stocked pantry.
Baptist’s Information Systems department also completely restored the
family’s computer, which had been broken.
One of Baptist’s most important missions is to strengthen our community
through initiatives that support the underserved. Our partnership with
Habitat for Humanity has been so successful, we built a third project in
Habitat still needs donations to help the Allens fully furnish their
house. If you would like to help, please contact the Baptist Community
Relations department at 901-227-3531.
